Keeping Up

The one thing I have to admit is that keeping up with a blog has proven to be more of a task than I had imagined. It has been months since the last positing was made. The mission trip in April was nothing short of fantastic and the next is right around the corner. Rather than throwing a lot of information at you all at once let me share an update letter that we have drafted for those who have participated in supporting the ministry.

August 15, 2012

I am writing to thank you and to share some exciting news.

Let me start by sincerely thanking you for all you have done for the Uganda ministry through prayer and financial support. During just this most recent mission trip, literally hundreds of people were reached as the Word went out through the crusades. New and old believers alike were ministered to in an all saints conference, Uganda’s version of discipleship training. More heard the Gospel through our evangelism efforts and our work with the youth of the villages hosting the crusades and conference.

The second week centered on a bush pastor’s conference and a youth ministry. While the pastors received the teaching/training and support needed to shepherd their flock, the youth of the village shared in a VBS like ministry focusing on a “creation to the cross” message. We also had the opportunity to minister to prisoners and provide some much needed encouragement to many fledgling bush churches.

And our mission work continues to expand within Africa. Even today we are planning for our first pastors training conference to take place in the Republic of the Congo. This work is in addition to the work within Uganda, and not a replacement and so a lengthy mission trip grows even longer. There are already 250 pastors signed up and awaiting our arrival in the Congo and this is on top of the more than 300 pastors that have been trained in Uganda! God is really moving in Africa.

Now for more exciting news; the first step to the formation of our international charity is completed. The ministry is now officially incorporated as 4 HIM IN AFRICA Ministries, and we anxiously await the awarding of our nonprofit status. The charity is involved in providing sponsorship for children to attend school and to fund the target schools as need be.  Within Uganda there is no publicly funded educational system and unless sponsored the majority of children receive no formal education. Our intention is to provide food, clothing, shelter, education centered on Christian values to those in need…really our goal is to provide a future full of promise. This charitable organization will work in harmony with the current missions efforts of evangelism, education, training and support.

Your continued support is essential to provide for these ongoing efforts in Uganda and beyond. Only God can judge the success of our efforts but we wish to share some unbelievable news with you: on review of records kept since January 2010 by our Ugandan ministry partner, Revival Miracle Ministry, more than 7000 people have given their lives to Christ and 5180 have been faithful in baptism. Please prayerfully consider your role in this ministry. You can donate directly to, 4 HIM IN AFRICA Ministries and indicate Uganda on the memo line. Please help us to share the love of Christ with the people of East Africa.

God Bless

Danny

As you can see 4 HIM IN AFRICA Ministries has been busy. God is so good and so busy blessing us. It is amazing to see what He is doing through us and our ministry partners in Uganda and beyond. Stay tuned and I promise more to come.

Some words from Andy

It has been almost two years since my trip to Africa and I often still think about the people there, the conditions, and the work that God is doing there. There are three wonderful things that God showed me the last time I was there so it will be interesting to see what God does and shows me this time. The first thing is that you do not need much to be happy. The people living in the mud houses with the mud church were some of the happiest people I have seen. The second thing is the power of faith. The people of Uganda believed in the power of healing because they had no reason not to believe. They were asking for healing and it was working. The third thing was their passion for Christ. Often times we find excuses to not make time for God but often these people would walk very long distances and gave up much to be able to close to God. It pains me that the religious of Uganda are willing to give up so much when they given so little but yet the people here who are given so much give so little.
Uganda was not an easy trip but there was hardly a moment that I did not enjoy the chance to work for God. I greatly enjoyed the chance to serve God throughout the day and then talk about him through the evening. It was kind of like coming home to a father. While I was serving God there was some very special moments. I remember very clearly sitting down with a girl who had been abused when she was younger and able to use past counseling that I had given to others to console her. I found myself falling into the routine of most Christians and wanting to base our success off how many people came to Christ but that one girl reminded me that even if one person is affected or possibly even ourselves then God’s will is done. The fellowship in evenings gave a nice chance and break of pace to unwind and discuss some of the inner workings of God.
Like I said a moment ago though, it was not exactly an easy trip but I never expected it to be one. It required a lot of effort on each of our parts but the effort did not go on rewarded. Uganda left something inside of me that nothing could ever take away.

I AM SO EXCITED

As I sit here looking at the seat selection screen on the Delta website, I am reminded in every way to PRAISE THE LORD! A month ago I would not have dreamed that I would be holding tickets to Uganda. A month ago I was having difficulty getting out of bed. Now I hold tickets to the place where my heart lives. Health was not the only stumbling block, in many ways I think the health issues were God’s way of getting me to stop long enough to deal with those things I would have rather never looked at. I told a friend that something needed to get my attention and I forced God to use a 2x4.  I PTL that my God is good and full of mercy and that I have the chance to be made new each morning. What ever I need to face in the future I don’t want to do it alone and with Jesus Christ I don’t have too.

We are just about 30 days until departure. The team is evenly spread between West Virginia and Florida this year. Let me introduce you to the group:
Pastor Danny Cunningham is team leader
            Pastor Phillip Thompson
            Pastor Robert Ballard
            Andy Hammack
            Kim Thompson
            Sandy Fleming
All of us will be watching Pastor Robert. Robert is the only one of the group who has not made this journey before. We will watch as he loses his heart to the people of Uganda as each one of us has. It will be fun to relive that first trip through his eyes. I am excited to again be traveling with Andy; we made our first mission trip to Uganda together just 2 years ago.

The mission focus is again broad but yet focused at the same time. The Pastors conference is on week three of the planned six. Danny, Robert and Phillip will do the teaching at the pastor’s conference and new believers conference. Kim, Andy and I will handle the children’s and youth ministry. All will participate in evangelism on the street and door-to-door. There will be many opportunities for each member of the group to share the love of Christ and the knowledge of His great gift with many people. I realize God is the one leading this group and I am so excited to see what He wants to share.

We ask for prayers for travel mercy as we depart the USA at various times on April 9th and some to return on April 21sth and the remainder on April 24th. Please pray for the mission and the team, pray now and pray often.

We are still working...

Well it seems that time isn't going to slow down for me so I am just going to have to type faster. I hope in addition to the new photo array you have discovered the interactive links on this page. Just by hovering over and then clicking a tab you can be whisked away to YouTube where all of our videos can be enjoyed. Click another tab and you can check out the newsletters, both old and new. Want to look at a brochure or two, maybe download one for printing....there is a tab for that. Please sign up for automatic e-mail updates while you're here too. Look around, want something we don't have let me know and I'll see about adding it.
Ok, the next trips itinerary is in the planning stage but it looks like departure from the USA on April 9th with part of the group leaving Uganda for home on the 19th and the remainder on the 23rd. If you are interested in traveling with us on this spring 2012 trip there is still time but only barely. Before being added to the list we ask you read the new members packet and you can get one from Pastor Danny or me. You also need to have a valid passport in hand. The cost per traveler is estimated to be $2700 and I can give you a breakdown as to where your money is being spent. Keep in mind this figure may rise as final costs are calculated. It is important to realize that the mission itself, the obvious priority, takes an additional $7300 to fund. We ask that all missionaries actively participate in fund raising. The best and most productive fund raising strategy is simply to share your passion about this ministry. Every donation of $10, $20, $50 counts and adds up.
I want everyone interested in this ministry to keep up with our "doings", so look for many more of these shorter updates.

Pastor Phillips Update

11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
(Hebrews 4:11-13)

Since our last mission trip to Uganda we have been receiving testimonies from the Ugandan pastors and churches about what God is doing in there. It’s clear that God is not only at work in their lives and in their churches but He affects their ministries and communities as well. Kim and I are so excited about this upcoming mission, which is scheduled to leave on the 9th of April. We are being blessed with another opportunity to spread the truth of God's Word to the people of Uganda. What we would ask of our prayer partners is to pray for us as we prepare for this trip. I ask for prayers for the team (6 are traveling), the mission in general, and specifically for Kim as she is now in the role of Youth Education Coordinator, and me as I have taken on the role of Pastoral Education Coordinator. As we approach our departure date I become increasingly anxious to see my brothers and sisters in Uganda and very excited to work hand and hand with the rest of the mission team. Thank you for all of your Love and support you have given us, and will keep you updated. God Bless

Over Due Update!!!

So can anyone tell me where the time goes? Seriously it’s January 2012! Before I get you up-to-date on the next trip let me get you to enjoy the photo slideshow of Fall 2011 that can be found on the left side of the screen. Here are just a “few” of the many, many photos that get taken during these missions. Sometimes I think the fellowship and sharing opportunities that are sparked by producing a camera with a video display is as important as any of the other ministries. Most of the people we encounter have never really seen themselves. There are no mirrors, no glass and very few reflective surfaces. Yes they have probably marveled at their reflection in a pool of water … but that 2.5-inch view screen! Imagine what that must feel like, to see yourself for the first time. Then we get to share with them how we really are all the same, each of us made in the image of our Savior and go on to share the Gospel message with them. Memories I will always cherish.

The next mission trip is already deep into the planning stage. I will post updates over the next few weeks. The schedule is: departure from various cities in the USA on April 9th and a return date of April 24th. For the first time we are able to offer an option of a 10-day trip, in other words we are able to split the trip up for those who cannot manage a full 16 days away from home and work. If you are at all interested in what role you can play in this ministry e-mail us at 4himinafrica@gmail.com. We would love to talk to you. Though I am not traveling this year I am excited to see what God has in store for the people of Uganda and the missionaries.
